BECOME A PARTNER TO YOUR BOSS
It is sometimes lonely being the boss. When a subordinate provides help to the boss in resolving a conflict or achieving his goals it is really valued. It is impossible to tell when you are first hired whether you and your boss are on a close wave length where you like the same things, see the world in the same way, and so on. That really doesn’t matter because you can be a terrific partner to your boss with or without being a personal friend if you lived in the same neighborhood. You can:
- Volunteer for a project that is meaningful to the boss
- Resolve a dispute with a client or colleague
- Assist your colleagues to achieve their goals
- Go out of your way to help someone in your group or the firm at large
- Mentor a young associate
