Goal Setting: Understand How You Will Be Evaluated

Be sure you understand in specific terms how will you be evaluated at the end of the month, quarter or year-end. Clarify each of the following with your boss:

    • What percentage of your evaluation will be based on achieving quantified goals and qualitative goals?
    • Discuss specifically the metrics that will be used to evaluate each goal
    • Your boss and you should be able to agree on the degree of your success at the end of the evaluation period
    • Once measures are agreed to, prepare a spreadsheet to track your progress and use to prepare for your regular reviews.
