UNDERSTAND AND LEARN FROM WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU
Keep the following in mind:
- Ask why you got fired
- Listen carefully to understand if it was a downsizing (your department is being eliminated), politics (someone didn’t like you) or the company is moving in a different direction (your skills and abilities are no longer appropriate)
- Determine if there were signals you should have picked up along the way
- Determine if there are any takeaways from the experience that will make you stronger in your next position
