Measuring success will be absolutely critical to your success. Do not play games: Identify those duties that are at the top of the boss’s list and that need to be accomplished successfully.
Keep in mind the following:
- Identify each of your primary goals and clarify them with your boss
- Determine how you will evaluate success
- Identify what success looks like (paint a real world picture for yourself)
- Understand the time frames-weekly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually?
- Success can be quantified which is easier to measure and reasonable people will probably agree upon success
- Success can be specified for those areas that are not easily quantified and will take more thinking to determine success criteria
- Keep careful records on your success and be prepared to show your boss at a moments notice
